Aden
Aden is a seaport city in Yemen, located by the eastern approach to the Red Sea, some 110 miles (170 kilometres) east of Bab-el-Mandeb. Its population is approximately a million people. Aden's ancient, natural harbour lies in the crater of a dormant volcano which now forms a peninsula, joined to the mainland by a low isthmus. This harbour, Front Bay, was first used by the ancient Kingdom of Awsan between the 5th and 7th centuries BCE. The modern harbour is on the other side of the peninsula.
South Yemen
The People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, also referred to as South Yemen, Democratic Yemen or Yemen, was a socialist state in the southern and eastern provinces of the present-day Republic of Yemen ("Yemen"). Along with the Somali Democratic Republic, it was one of the few openly-Communist regimes to exist in the Arab World and the Middle East. It united with the Yemen Arab Republic (commonly known as "North Yemen") on May 22, 1990, to form the present-day Yemen.

It is situated in a crater of an ancient volcano which forms the Shamsan Mountains. In 1991, the population was 70,319. In the closing days of British rule in 1967, Crater District became the focus of the Aden Emergency, sometimes called the last imperial war.

Big Ben Aden
Big Ben Aden is a clock tower built by British engineers, along with locals, beside Aden Harbour during the period that Aden Province was a territory within the British Empire. It is superficially similar to the Elizabeth Tower (popularly known as Big Ben), the famous clock tower attached to the Palace of Westminster in London. The clock was shut down for renovation about a quarter of a century ago, and returned to service in February 2012.
