The Fox Theater in Spokane, Washington is a 1931 Art Deco movie theater. It was designed by architect Robert C. Reamer, notable for his design of the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone Park. It was part of the Fox Film Corporation Empire founded by studio mogul William Fox. The theater opened September 3, 1931 and showed films continuously until it closed September 21, 2000 after an engagement of the movie Gladiator starring Russell Crowe.
Spokane Coliseum
Spokane Coliseum (nicknamed The Boone Street Barn) was an indoor arena, located in Spokane, Washington. It opened in 1954 and had a capacity of 5,400. It was host to a number of teams, including the Spokane Chiefs, of the WHL. The arena served as the home of the men's basketball program of Gonzaga University, from its entry into NCAA Division I competition in 1958, until the opening of the on-campus John F. Kennedy Memorial Pavilion, later the Charlotte Y. Martin Centre, in 1965.
Monroe Street Bridge
Monroe Street Bridge is a deck arch bridge that spans the Spokane River in Spokane, Washington. It was built in 1911 by the city of Spokane and was designed by John Chester Ralston and Kirtland Kelsey Cutter. At the time of completion it was the largest concrete-arch bridge in the United States and the third longest in the world. The current bridge is actually the third bridge in this location. The first bridge, a rather rickety wooden structure, was built in 1889.
Riverfront Park Carousel
The Riverfront Park Carousel, also known as the Looff Carousel and the Natatorium Park Carousel is a carousel in Spokane, Washington originally built in 1909 by Charles I. D. Looff. The carousel was a gift for Looff's daughter Emma Vogel and her husband Louis Vogel, who owned Natatorium Park in Spokane. It remained at the park until 1968 when the park closed. The carousel was relocated to its present location at Riverfront Park in 1975 where it continues to operate.
River Park Square
River Park Square is a shopping mall and entertainment complex in Spokane, Washington. The shopping center was originally opened in 1974. Following years of decline, the center was redeveloped in 1999 using public and private funds in an effort to revitalize downtown Spokane. The mall, still privately owned by the Cowles family, is anchored by AMC Theatres, Macy's, and Nordstrom.
Riverfront Park (Spokane, Washington)
Riverfront Park is a public park in downtown Spokane, Washington. The 100 acre park is located along the Spokane River, not far upstream from the Spokane Falls. It was created for Expo '74, a World's Fair event. The defining feature of the park is the Pavilion, which is marked by a 145-foot-tall metal frame and wire shell that formed the US Pavilion tent during Expo '74.
The Parkade
The Parkade is a ten-level parking structure in Spokane, Washington. It was built for $3.5 million in 1967 by Sceva Construction Company, with concrete furnished by the Acme Concrete Company. The structure was built to accommodate one thousand automobiles and achieved its record capacity on December 22, 1969 with 3878 cars, well beyond the 1967 capacity needs. The architect for the project was Warren C.
