Steilacoom, Washington

Steilacoom is a town in Pierce County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,985 at the 2010 census. Steilacoom is on the coast of Puget Sound, on a branch not visible on the map to the right. Steilacoom incorporated in 1854 and became the first incorporated town in what is now Washington state. Based on per capita income, one of the more reliable measures of affluence, Steilacoom ranks 61st of 522 areas in the state of Washington to be ranked.

Fort Steilacoom

It was among the first military fortifications built by the U.S. north of the Columbia River in what was to become Washington. Chambers Creek (Washington)

Chambers Creek is a creek in Washington. It is fed by Lake Steilacoom in Lakewood, Washington. Chambers Creek was named for Thomas M. Chambers, who settled near Olympia, Washington in 1846 and later built a sawmill on the creek. Abitibi Consolidated Inc owns a paper mill along the south side of the lower reaches of the creek. The creek is dammed just upstream from the mill to provide water for the mill, which is being demolished.
