Mount Rainier National Park
Mount Rainier National Park is a United States National Park located in southeast Pierce County and northeast Lewis County in Washington state. It was established on March 2, 1899 as the fifth national park in the United States. The park encompasses 236,381 acres including all of Mount Rainier, a 14,410-foot stratovolcano. The mountain rises abruptly from the surrounding land with elevations in the park ranging from 1,600 feet (490 m) to over 14,000 feet (4,300 m).
Williwakas Glacier
The Williwakas Glacier is a glacier located on the south flank of Mount Rainier in Washington. The glacier lies below the Paradise Glacier. Due to its relatively low elevation—6,600 feet –6,900 feet —the glacier is small and surrounded by small snow fields above the regional tree line. A stubby 7,163 ft peak is located to the east of the glacier.
Wilson Glacier (Mount Rainier)
The Wilson Glacier is a medium-sized tributary glacier located on the southeast flank of Mount Rainier in Washington. Named after A.D. Wilson, who was part of an early ascent of Mount Rainier, the body of ice has an area of 0.5 square miles and has a volume of 1.9 billion feet (54 million m). The glacier is directly feeds ice to the adjacent, but much larger Nisqually Glacier. Starting from the head at 9,700 feet, the glacier flows downhill southward.
Paradise Glacier
The Paradise Glacier is a glacier on the southeast flank of Mount Rainier in Washington. It covers 0.4 square miles and contains 0.8 billion ft (23 million m) with Stevens Glacier included. The glacier is bounded to the west by the Muir Snowfield, Anvil Rock and McClure Rock. There is a single extant main lobe of the glacier, ranging from 9,000 feet to 7,200 feet, that is connected to the larger Cowlitz Glacier.
Henry M. Jackson Visitor Center
The Henry M. Jackson Visitor Center is a day-use facility located in the Paradise area of Mount Rainier National Park. The facility offers exhibits, films, guided ranger programs, a book store, a snack bar, and a gift shop, as well as public restrooms, and informational brochures and maps. The first Jackson Visitor Center opened in 1966 as part of the National Park Service's Mission 66 program.
Upper Stevens Creek Falls
Upper Stevens Creek Falls is a waterfall in the Mount Rainier National Park in Pierce County, Washington. Although virtually ignored, it is said to be one of the greatest waterfalls in the state. The falls are fed by Stevens Creek, which is a tributary of the Cowlitz River. The falls drop about 375 feet into a narrow, barren canyon in a horsetail form about 60 feet wide. Significant off-trail travel, which is prohibited, is required to view this waterfall properly.
Narada Falls
Narada Falls is a waterfall in Mount Rainier National Park, in the U.S. state of Washington. It is said to be the most popular, because the Mount Rainier Highway crosses the falls between its two tiers. The waterfall drops 188 feet in two tiers of 168 feet and 20 feet . The upper tier is a horsetail that falls in several strands down a nearly sheer cliff, into a canyon that is perpendicular to it. The lower tier is a much smaller plunge.
