Des Moines is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 29,673 at the 2010 census. Des Moines is located on the east shore of Puget Sound, approximately halfway between the major cities of Seattle and Tacoma. The city is bordered by the suburbs of Federal Way to the south, Kent to the east, Sea-Tac to the northeast, Burien to the north, and Normandy Park to the northwest.
Saltwater State Park
Saltwater State Park is a 87.4 acres plot of second-growth timber on Puget Sound in the City of Des Moines, Washington, United States halfway between Seattle and Tacoma. The main attraction is 1,445 feet of saltwater beachfront, including a sandy swimming beach in the southwest corner, and rocky tideflats along the west with a submerged artificial reef that is popular with scuba divers. A forty-person group camp looks down on the beach from a high bluff.

Redondo is a community within the incorporated boundaries of the city of Des Moines near the border of Federal Way in King County, Washington. Redondo was initially founded as a resort, but gradually grew to be a middle-class residential community. The community, which is largely centered around Redondo Beach – a small beach with a board-walk, a Salty's restaurant, and a pay parking lot, was reportedly named by a settler from Redondo Beach, California. It is located near Saltwater State Park.

Woodmont Beach, Washington
Woodmont Beach, a private beach, is located in Des Moines, Washington at 47 21'36.94"N 122 19'26.75"W elev 10' (at the plaza). It is located in South King County along the shore of Puget Sound. The area was originally logged and later developed as a community of summer homes with a shared beach. In the 1920s, a large dock provided fun for the residents escaping Seattle and easy access for the rum-runners that brought in liquor from Canada. One can still see the pylons from this dock.
