Peninsula Campaign

The Peninsula Campaign (also known as the Peninsular Campaign) of the American Civil War was a major Union operation launched in southeastern Virginia from March through July 1862, the first large-scale offensive in the Eastern Theater. The operation, commanded by Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan, was an amphibious turning movement against the Confederate States Army in Northern Virginia, intended to capture the Confederate capital of Richmond.

Penniman, Virginia

Penniman was an unincorporated town in northwestern York County, on the south bank of the York River six miles (10 km) northeast of Williamsburg in the Virginia Peninsula area of the Hampton Roads region of southeastern Virginia in the United States. It was named for Russell Sylvanus Penniman, an American chemist who in 1885 invented ammonia dynamite. As part of the World War I war efforts, Penniman was built by the E.I.

Fort Magruder

Fort Magruder was a 30-foot high earthen fortification straddling the road between Yorktown and Williamsburg, Virginia, just outside the latter city (and former Virginia state capital) during the American Civil War.
