Winchester is an independent city located in the northwestern portion of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the USA. The city's population was 26,203 according to the 2010 Census. Winchester is the county seat of Frederick County and the principal city of the Winchester, Virginia-West Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a part of the Washington-Baltimore-Northern Virginia, DC-MD-VA-WV Combined Statistical Area.
Second Battle of Winchester
The Second Battle of Winchester was fought between June 13 and June 15, 1863 in Frederick County and Winchester, Virginia as part of the Gettysburg Campaign during the American Civil War. As Confederate Lieutenant General Richard S. Ewell moved down the Shenandoah Valley in the direction of Pennsylvania, his corps defeated the Union Army garrison commanded by Major General Robert H. Milroy, capturing Winchester and numerous Union prisoners.
Battle of Opequon
The Battle of Opequon, more commonly known as the Third Battle of Winchester, was fought in Winchester, Virginia, on September 19, 1864, during the Valley Campaigns of 1864 in the American Civil War. As Confederate Lt. Gen. Jubal A. Early raided the B&O Railroad at Martinsburg, WV, Union Maj. Gen. Philip H. Sheridan advanced toward Winchester along the Berryville Pike with the VI Corps and XIX Corps, crossing Opequon Creek.

Shentel Stadium
Shentel Stadium is a 3,000-seat stadium in Winchester, Virginia where it serves as home to the football team of Shenandoah University. Built in 2001 the stadium's name comes from a sponsorship agreement with Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (or Shentel). It is home to the 2004, 2005 USA South Conference Football Champions. It is also home to the men's and women's soccer teams along with the men's and women's lacrosse teams. The stadium's field is an artificial playing surface.
Apple Blossom Mall
The Apple Blossom Mall is 442,000 square feet and was built in 1982 on the south side of Winchester, VA. It has approximately 80 stores and three anchors, Sears, JCPenney and Belk (formerly Leggett). The shopping mall is 49.1% owned by Simon Property Group and it is managed by Simon. Simon announced in 2007 a major lifestyle redevelopment at Apple Blossom Mall including the addition of a RC Theatres 16-screen complex on the property.
