McLean is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County in Northern Virginia. The community had a total population of 48,115 as of the 2010 census. McLean is home to many diplomats, members of Congress, and high-ranking government officials partially due to its proximity to Washington, D.C. and the Central Intelligence Agency. It is the location of Hickory Hill, the former home of Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Robert F. Kennedy.

Operation Mockingbird was a secret Central Intelligence Agency campaign to influence media beginning in the 1950s. The operation was first called Mockingbird in Deborah Davis' 1979 book, Katharine the Great: Katharine Graham and her Washington Post Empire. More evidence of Mockingbird's existence emerged in the 2007 memoir American Spy: My Secret History in the CIA, Watergate, and Beyond, by convicted Watergate "plumber" E.

Project ARTICHOKE

Project ARTICHOKE (also referred to as Operation ARTICHOKE) was a CIA project that researched interrogation methods and arose from Project BLUEBIRD on August 20, 1951, run by the CIA's Office of Scientific Intelligence. A memorandum by Richard Helms to CIA director Allen Welsh Dulles indicated Artichoke became Project MKULTRA on April 13, 1953.

Claude Moore Colonial Farm

The Claude Moore Colonial Farm at Turkey Run is the only privately run park in the U.S. National Park Service (NPS). The Friends of Claude Moore Colonial Farm at Turkey Run Inc. , a privately funded foundation, pays for all activities on the farm, while the land is owned by the NPS. 1964 U.S. Open (golf)

The 1964 U.S. Open was the 64th U.S. Open. The golf tournament was held June 18–20, 1964, at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. Ken Venturi won his only major title with a four-stroke victory over runner-up Tommy Jacobs. Jacobs held the 36-hole lead after shooting a U.S. Open record-tying 64 in the second round. In the third round on Saturday morning, he carded a 70 and retained a 2-stroke lead over Venturi, who shot a 66, after 54 holes.
