The Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek is the major operating base for the Amphibious Forces in the United States Navy's Atlantic Fleet. The base comprises four locations in three states, including almost 12,000 acres (49 km²) of real estate. Chesapeake Bay Academy (founded in 1989) in Virginia Beach, Virginia is an independent coeducational day school. It is the only K-12 school in southeastern Virginia licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools for students with specific learning disabilities (SLD) and Other Health Impairments (OHI). The school's mission is to provide specialized musical training to musicians of the Navy, Army, and Marine Corps military bands. The school does not provide training for musicians of the Air Force or Coast Guard.
Burning of Norfolk
The Burning of Norfolk was an incident that occurred on January 1, 1776, during the American Revolutionary War. British Royal Navy ships in the harbor of Norfolk, Virginia began shelling the town, and landing parties came ashore to burn specific properties. The town, whose significantly Tory (Loyalist) population had fled, was occupied by Whig (Revolutionary) forces from Virginia and North Carolina.
