Cloverdale, Virginia
Cloverdale is a census-designated place (CDP) in Botetourt County, Virginia, United States. The population was 2,986 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Roanoke Metropolitan Statistical Area. Cloverdale is the birthplace of Charles Follis, who became the first African-American to play professional football when he signed with the Shelby Blues of Shelby, Ohio in 1902 (note that he was first paid for playing in 1904).

Hollins University is a four-year private institution of higher education located on a 475-acre campus on the border of Roanoke and Botetourt counties in the U.S. state of Virginia.
