Joe Hill House

The Joe Hill House was a Catholic Worker Movement house of hospitality in Salt Lake City, Utah co-founded in 1961 by Ammon Hennacy and Mary Lathrop. Providing social services and housing to the homeless, the Joe Hill House operated until 1968. One of the prominent features of the Joe Hill House was an enormous twelve feet by fifteen foot mural of IWW songwriter Joe Hill and Jesus Christ, painted by Mary Lathrop.

Spring Mobile Ballpark

Granite High School (Utah)

Granite High School was a public high school located at 3305 South 500 East in South Salt Lake, Utah. Granite opened in 1906. The first LDS seminary opened across the street from the school in 1912. In 2005-2006, the enrollment was 1250, but was reduced as the school transformed into an "academy" format. The academies within the school include the Young Parent program for teenage parents with children and the ESL program for new immigrants and refugees.

Sugar House Park

Sugar House Park, or Sugarhouse Park, is located between I-80, 2100 South, 1300 East, and 1700 East in Salt Lake City, Utah. The 110-acre park is at the heart of the Sugar House neighborhood and is the site of a fireworks show and concert every Independence Day of the United States (July 4th) and a popular sledding location in the winter. The park was the location of Sugar House Prison, Utah's first state prison, until 1951 when the current prison was opened in Draper, Utah.

Gilgal Sculpture Garden

The Gilgal Sculpture Garden is a small public city park, located at 749 East 500 South in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. The park, which is filled with unusual symbolic statuary associated with Mormonism, notably to the Sphinx with Joseph Smith's head, was a labor of love designed and created by LDS businessman Thomas Battersby Child, Jr. (1888-1963) in his spare time. The park contains 12 original sculptures and over 70 stones engraved with scriptures, poems and literary texts.

Sugar House Prison (Utah)

Sugar House Prison, previously the Utah Territorial Penitentiary, was a prison in the Sugar House neighborhood of Salt Lake City, Utah. The 180-acre prison housed more than 400 inmates. It was closed in 1951 due to encroaching housing development, and all of its inmates were moved to the new Utah State Prison in Draper. The site is now occupied by Sugar House Park and Highland High School.

Derks Field

Derks Field was a baseball stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was the home field of the Salt Lake Bees, Salt Lake Gulls, and the Salt Lake City Trappers of the Pioneer Baseball League until Spring Mobile Ballpark opened on the same site in 1994. It also hosted the Salt Lake Sting of A-League. The stadium held 10,000 spectators and opened in 1947. It was named after Salt Lake Tribune sports editor, John C. Derks. It replaced Community Field that burned down.
