Joseph Lafayette Rawlins (March 28, 1850 – May 24, 1926) was a delegate from the Territory of Utah and a Senator from Utah. Rawlins was born at Millcreek, Salt Lake County, Utah on March 28, 1850. He pursued a classical course at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. He was a professor at the University of Deseret, Salt Lake City, Utah, 1873–1875. He then studied law; he was admitted to the bar in 1875, and he commenced practice in Salt Lake City.

Lester Farnsworth Wire (September 3, 1887–April 14, 1958) is credited with the invention of the electric traffic light in 1912 in Salt Lake City. Wire worked as a detective for the Salt Lake City police force. The earliest known patent for a traffic light in the US was U.S. Patent # 1,251,666 issued January 1, 1918, to J.B. Hoge of Cleveland, OH.
Ensign Peak
Ensign Peak is a peak in the foothills near downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. It is approximately one mile north of the Utah State Capitol and sits almost directly behind it. On July 26, 1847, Brigham Young and other early members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) climbed this hill and gave it its present name. The hill has religious significance in LDS Church history and in its symbolism.

Heber C. Kimball Gristmill
The Heber C. Kimball Gristmill was built in 1853 under the direction of Heber C. Kimball. Constructed within what was known as North Mill Cañon, the gristmill ground grains for nearly 40 years. During a period of a few years, the mill employed trained bears which were captured in the mountains east of the mill. Once burr mills became obsolete due to the invention of roller mills, the building was employed as an entertainment center.
