Sewanee is a census-designated place (CDP) in Franklin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,311 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tullahoma, Tennessee Micropolitan Statistical Area. Sewanee is best known as the home of The University of the South, commonly known as "Sewanee."

It is owned by 28 southern dioceses of the Episcopal Church, and its School of Theology is an official seminary of the church. The university's School of Letters offers graduate degrees in American Literature and Creative Writing.
Monteagle Mountain
Monteagle Mountain is the local name given to a stretch of Interstate 24 near Monteagle, Tennessee that passes over the Cumberland Plateau. Being part of the plateau, it is not technically a mountain, but appears that way to motorists crossing over it. It is frequently referenced as one of the most treacherous stretches of interstate in the United States, especially in inclement weather. Johnny Cash even wrote and performed a song about the treacherous nature of that stretch of road.
Cordell–Lorenz Observatory
Cordell–Lorenz Observatory (IAU code 850) is an astronomical observatory owned and operated by University of the South. It is located in Sewanee, Tennessee (USA). The Observatory has a 1897 vintage 6 inch Alvan Clark refractor located in the main dome and several other telescopes between 3.5 and 12.5 inch aperture. Public observation sessions are every Thursday from 8 until 10 PM when the University is in session (mid August through mid December and mid January through mid May)

The location is commonly referred to as Monteagle Mountain since it is near one of the most notoriously hazardous stretches of Interstate highway in the United States where Interstate 24 crosses the plateau.
