Pennsylvania State University
The Pennsylvania State University (commonly referred to as Penn State or PSU) is a public, state-related research university with campuses and facilities in Pennsylvania. Its instructional mission includes undergraduate, graduate, professional and continuing education offered through resident instruction and online delivery.
Old Main (Pennsylvania State University)
Old Main, originally called "Main Building" is The Pennsylvania State University’s first building of major significance. It was completed in 1863 after a six-year period of construction. Hugh McAllister designed the structure to contain classrooms, laboratories, offices, a chapel, and residential space for 400 students.
HUB–Robeson Center
The HUB–Robeson Center, commonly referred to as the "HUB" is the student union building centrally located on the University Park campus of Pennsylvania State University. It was originally built in 1953 and had major renovations done in 1973 and 1983. The most recent round of expansions and renovations was begun in May 1997, adding 91,000 square feet to the existing 154,000-square-foot building.
Rec Hall
Recreation Building, or Rec Hall as it is more commonly known, is a field house located on the University Park campus of the Pennsylvania State University. It was opened on January 15, 1929 and is still in use. Previously, Penn State's indoor sports teams played in a building known as the Armory, which was razed to allow expansion of the Willard Building.
Penn State Golf Courses
The Penn State Golf Courses are two 18-hole courses located in State College, Pennsylvania, USA, operated by The Pennsylvania State University. The individual 18-hole courses are named after the school colors (blue and white). They, along with their practice facilities, are the home of the men's and women's golf team and all intramural golf activities of the university.
WKPS
WKPS (known as "The Lion 90.7 FM") is a college radio station owned by Penn State University. The station runs on a full-time, multi-format schedule featuring a wide variety of programming. "The Lion 90.7 FM" transmits to a potential audience of over 125,000 from its studio in the HUB-Robeson Center. The station also has a live webcast, which is capable of streaming live to hundreds of listeners.
Schlow Centre Region Library
The Schlow Centre Region Library, formerly known as the State College Public Library and the Schlow Memorial Library, serves the State College, Pennsylvania area. A new building opened in 2005, replacing the original, which opened in 1957. The new two-story 38,577-square-foot building cost $10 million to construct. The public facilities include 66 computers. There were about 37,000 card holders, about 5,000 of them were new card holders.
Pennsylvania State University Libraries
The Penn State University Libraries consists of 36 libraries at 22 locations in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The two main buildings on Penn State's University Park campus are the Pattee and Paterno libraries.
Octacube (mathematics)
The octacube is a large 3-dimensional mathematical sculpture illustrating a 4-dimensional structure in the Galois theory of operator algebras. It was designed by Adrian Ocneanu, a professor of pure mathematics at Penn State, which commissioned the sculpture. Ocneanu was also an International Mathematical Olympiad gold medalist in 1974 by recording a perfect score for his native country, Romania. A feature article on the sculpture appeared in the March 2006 issue of the popular journal Playboy.
Nittany Lion Shrine
The Nittany Lion Shrine at Pennsylvania State University was dedicated on October 24, 1942 during Homecoming. Animalier Heinz Warneke and stonecutter Joseph Garatti created it from a 13-ton block of Indiana Limestone. The shrine was chosen from six models submitted by Warneke. The shrine is a gift of the class of 1940 and rests in a natural setting of trees near Recreation Building.
Information Sciences and Technology Building
The Information Sciences and Technology Building (commonly known as the IST Building) is a classroom building at Pennsylvania State University. It is one of the newest buildings on the Penn State campus. Construction was completed in January 2004. The building was designed by the acclaimed architect Rafael Vinoly. According to the Penn State IST website, the design of the building "began as an inkpen sketch on a paper dinner napkin. " He characterizes the building as "a labor of love . . .
