Gallitzin is a borough bordered by Gallitzin Township and Tunnelhill in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. Standing 12 miles northwest of Altoona, it was first incorporated in 1872, and named for Prince Gallitzin, who founded the Catholic town of Loretto, Cambria County. Gallitzin Tunnel
The Gallitzin Tunnels in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, formed the Pennsylvania Railroad's passage through the Allegheny Mountains in western Pennsylvania. Ownership of the tunnels has been successively transferred from the Pennsylvania Railroad to Penn Central Transportation Company, then to Conrail, and most recently to the present owner, Norfolk Southern Railway. Just east of the tunnels is the famous Horseshoe Curve.

State Correctional Institution – Cresson
State Correctional Institution – Cresson is a medium-security, all male correctional facility, located off U.S. Route 22, about 10 miles west of Altoona along Old Route 22 in the Western part of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. On April 17, 2012 a SCI-Pine Grove van crashed near Hollidaysburg, PA while carrying 10 inmates and 2 correctional officers. No inmates escaped and several were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
