Wishram, Washington
Wishram is a census-designated place (CDP) in Klickitat County, Washington, United States. The population was 213 at the 2000 census. The site of the historic Celilo Falls is nearby. The community was originally named Fallbridge; it was changed to Wishram to honor the Wishram tribe of Native Americans. The nearby Dalles Dam was completed in 1957, and began filling Lake Celilo. The original fishing village near this location was inundated.
Celilo Falls
Celilo Falls (Wyam, meaning "echo of falling water" or "sound of water upon the rocks," in several native languages) was a tribal fishing area on the Columbia River, just east of the Cascade Mountains, on what is today the border between the U.S. states of Oregon and Washington. The name refers to a series of cascades and waterfalls on the river, as well as to the native settlements and trading villages that existed there in various configurations for 15,000 years.
