Malheur National Wildlife Refuge

Malheur National Wildlife Refuge is located roughly 30 miles south of the town of Burns, Oregon. The refuge area is roughly T shaped with the southernmost base at Frenchglen, the left top at Malheur Lake and the right top at Harney Lake. Named for an early pioneer, the refuge is a hotspot for birding, fishing and hiking.

Voltage, Oregon

Voltage is an unincorporated community in Harney County, Oregon, United States. It is located about 34 miles south of Burns, on the south shore of Malheur Lake near the Donner und Blitzen River. Voltage post office was established in 1908 by Walter C. Botsford, the first postmaster, who was interested in electricity and thought that the river could generate enough "voltage" to serve the entire Harney Valley. He had confused voltage with power; a hydropower project was never attempted.
