Gallia County is a county located in the state of Ohio, United States. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 30,934, which is a decrease of 0.4% from 31,069 in 2000. Its county seat is Gallipolis. Its name is the Latin word for "France", so called because many immigrants from that country settled here. Gallia County is part of the Point Pleasant, WV-OH Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Henderson is a town in Mason County, West Virginia, United States, at the confluence of the Ohio and Kanawha Rivers. The population was 271 at the 2010 census. Battle of Point Pleasant

The Battle of Point Pleasant — known as the Battle of Kanawha in some older accounts — was the only major action of Dunmore's War. It was fought on October 10, 1774, primarily between Virginia militia and American Indians from the Shawnee and Mingo tribes. Along the Ohio River near modern Point Pleasant, West Virginia, American Indians under the Shawnee Chief Cornstalk attacked Virginia militia under Colonel Andrew Lewis, hoping to halt Lewis's advance into the Ohio Country.

Eightmile Island

Eightmile Island is a forested island on the Ohio River in Mason County, West Virginia. The island is located directly across the river from the village of Cheshire, Ohio and American Electric Power Company power plant facilities there. The map is a clip from Harry Gordon's map (ca 1766) showing the "Indian Trade" safe camp site when on the main canoe route.

Silver Memorial Bridge

The Silver Memorial Bridge is a cantilever bridge which spans the Ohio River between Gallipolis, Ohio and Henderson, West Virginia. The bridge was completed in 1969, shortly after the Silver Bridge disaster, although it is located about 1 mile (1.6 km) downstream (south) of the original. The design of the bridge is much more proven than the ill fated eyebar chain suspension bridge, which collapsed in 1967.

Point Pleasant Rail Bridge

Kyger Creek Power Plant

Kyger Creek Power Plant is a 1-Gigawatt coal-fired power station at Cheshire, Ohio, USA operated by the Ohio Valley Electric Corporation. Launched into service in 1955, the plant is located just 2.5 kilometres downstream along the Ohio River from a much larger, newer coal-fired Gavin Power Plant. It has one of the tallest chimneys in the world at 305 metres, built in 1980.

Fort Randolph (West Virginia)

Fort Randolph was an American Revolutionary War fort which stood at the confluence of the Ohio and Kanawha Rivers, where the town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, is now located. Built in 1776 on the site of an earlier fort from Dunmore's War, the fort is best remembered as the place where the famous Shawnee Chief Cornstalk was murdered in 1777. The fort withstood attack by American Indians in 1778 but was abandoned the next year.

General James M. Gavin Power Plant is a 2.6-Gigawatt coal-fired power station in Cheshire, Ohio, USA operated by American Electric Power. Named after James M. Gavin, it is the largest coal fired power facility in Ohio, and one of the largest in the nation. Its two units, rated at 1300 MWe each, were launched into service in 1974 and 1975. The plant is connected to the grid by 765 kilovolt transmission lines (the highest rated voltage in the United States).

Silver Bridge

The Silver Bridge was an eyebar-chain suspension bridge built in 1928 and named for the color of its aluminum paint. The bridge connected Point Pleasant, West Virginia and Gallipolis, Ohio, over the Ohio River. On December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge collapsed while it was full of rush-hour traffic, resulting in the deaths of 46 people. Two of the victims were never found.
