Cloud Chamber for the Trees and Sky

The chamber itself is a round building built of stone, wood, and turf with a single door to admit the viewer. It is light-tight when its door is closed, except for one small, round opening in its roof which allows the building to act as a camera obscura.

The Raleigh School is an independent, non-sectarian, coeducational day school located in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, serving students from 18 months through fifth grade. Its forerunner, Raleigh Preschool, was established in 1952 and received a state charter in 1955. The current name, The Raleigh School, was adopted in 1992, and the K-5 program was added in 1993. For the 2009-2010 school year, there were 180 students in the preschool program.

It is a 1.5-acre site that was used from 1969 until 1980 to dispose of hazardous waste from laboratories and research facilities. The North Carolina State University Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences began monitoring the site in 1981, drilling wells and sampling the groundwater.
