Charlotte Coliseum
The Charlotte Coliseum was a multi-purpose sports and entertainment arena in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was operated by the Charlotte Coliseum Authority, which also oversees the operation of Bojangles' Coliseum (which was called Charlotte Coliseum prior to 1988), the Charlotte Convention Center, and Ovens Auditorium. It is best known as the home of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets from 1988–2002, and the Charlotte Bobcats from 2004–2005.
Carowinds
Carowinds is a 398-acre amusement park, located adjacent to Interstate 77 on the border between North and South Carolina, in Charlotte and Fort Mill, respectively. The park opened on March 31, 1973, at a cost of $70 million. This was the result of a four-year planning period spearheaded by Charlotte businessman Earl Patterson Hall, who was inspired to build the park by a 1956 trip to Disneyland and a dream of bringing the two states closer together.
WBT (radio station)
WBT (known on air as News Talk 1110) is a radio station in Charlotte, North Carolina, broadcasting on the AM dial at 1110 kHz. A 50,000-watt clear-channel station, it can be heard across most of the eastern half of North America at night. It simulcasts on WBT-FM, at 99.3 MHz in Chester, South Carolina. It is owned by Greater Media. The station's studios are located just west of uptown Charlotte, while its transmitter is located in the southern part of the city.
Thunder Road (roller coaster)
Thunder Road is a wooden roller coaster located at the Carowinds amusement park in Charlotte, North Carolina. Thunder Road is a racing roller coaster, featuring two individual tracks that parallel each other. The design of the ride was based upon Rebel Yell, another wooden racing coaster at Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia. The coaster is built on the Carolinas state line. Riders have the option to choose which side, North Carolina or South Carolina they would like to ride on.
Nighthawk (roller coaster)
Nighthawk is a steel flying roller coaster built by Vekoma at Carowinds in Charlotte. North Carolina. It originally opened as Stealth at Paramount's Great America on April 1, 2000. Stealth was the first flying roller coaster of its kind in the world. Paramount closed the ride in 2003 after deciding to relocate the roller coaster. It reopened as BORG Assimilator – the first coaster in the world to be themed to Star Trek – at Carowinds on March 20, 2004.
Eastern Air Lines Flight 212
Eastern Air Lines Flight 212 was an Eastern Air Lines Douglas DC-9-31, carrying 78 passengers and four crew, operating as a scheduled flight from Charleston, South Carolina to Chicago, Illinois, with an intermediate stop in Charlotte, North Carolina. On the morning of September 11, 1974, while conducting an instrument approach in dense ground fog into Douglas Municipal Airport, Charlotte, North Carolina, the aircraft crashed just short of the runway, killing 71 on board.
Hurler (roller coaster)
Hurler is the name of two wooden roller coasters at Cedar Fair's Carowinds and Kings Dominion parks. Both coasters opened in the same year, 1994. Built by International Coasters Inc. , the coasters both have exactly the same design, with exactly the same statistics.
Boomerang Bay (Carowinds)
Boomerang Bay is a water park at Carowinds amusement park in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company and is included with the price of admission to Carowinds.
Woodstock Express (Carowinds)
Woodstock Express is a wooden roller coaster located at Carowinds in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was formerly named after the Nickelodeon cartoon The Fairly OddParents. Though containing all of the elements of a "full-size" or standard wooden roller coaster, its short drop heights, slower speed, gently curving layout and short track length lead to its mistaken identity as a 'junior roller coaster'.
Steele Creek (Charlotte neighborhood)
Steele Creek is primarily considered to be a community and neighborhood in the southwestern part of Mecklenburg County in North Carolina. It is generally defined geographically by the original boundaries of Steele Creek Township. Most of Steele Creek is within the city limits of Charlotte but the areas that have not yet been annexed are also recognized as a Township of North Carolina.
Olympic Community of Schools
Olympic Community of Schools is located in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is one of 19 high schools in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) system. Carolina Cyclone
The Carolina Cyclone is a roller coaster located at Carowinds in Charlotte, North Carolina and Fort Mill, South Carolina. The Carolina Cyclone, built in 1980 by world renowned coaster builders Arrow Dynamics, was the first ride featuring 4 inversions, two loops and two corkscrews. The Carolina Cyclone is still running after 30 years. The coaster was repainted for the 2010 season.
Vortex (Carowinds)
Vortex is a steel stand-up roller coaster at Carowinds that was built during the last year before Paramount bought the park in the year 1992. This ride, which was unusual at its time, officially opened on March 14, 1992, on the former site of the Carolina Speedway miniature car ride. Vortex was Bolliger & Mabillard's 3rd coaster and contains a loop and a corkscrew element in its small circuit.
Flying Super Saturator
Flying Super Saturator was a water ride and suspended roller coaster at Carowinds amusement park, which lies on the border of North and South Carolina. Flying Super Saturator was the first roller coaster of its kind, allowing riders to dump 4-gallon payloads of water on those Carowinds patrons who venture underneath the coaster's track.
Carolina Goldrusher
The Goldrusher is a steel roller coaster made by Arrow Dynamics of Mountain View, California United States. The coaster is located in Carolina Boardwalk area of Carowinds in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was the park's first roller coaster and one of only 3 original rides that still operate in the park today.
Afterburn (roller coaster)

Intimidator is the thirteenth roller coaster installed at Carowinds and is located near the entrance of the theme park. It is currently one of the tallest, fastest and longest roller coasters in the Southeast with a 232-foot lift hill, a top speed of 80 miles per hour and a track length of 5,316 feet .
Flying Ace Aerial Chase
Flying Ace Aerial Chase is a steel roller coaster at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio and Carowinds in Charlotte, North Carolina. The ride is a Suspended Family Coaster built by Vekoma designed specifically for families. It is based on the Snoopy and the Red Baron saga, and was first themed to the Rugrats episode, Runaway Reptar.
