Historic South End, often referred to as The South End, is a neighborhood immediately south of Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. It is also one of three Municipal Service Districts in Charlotte. The South End has its beginning in the 1850s with Charlotte's first railroad line, connecting the Queen City to Columbia and Charleston, SC. As time passed a thriving manufacturing community sprang up along the tracks, centered on the booming textile industry.
Wing Haven Gardens and Bird Sanctuary
Wing Haven Gardens and Bird Sanctuary (3 acres) are non-profit gardens and a bird sanctuary located at 248 Ridgewood Avenue, Charlotte, North Carolina. They are open several hours a week, year-round; admission is by donation ($5 recommended for adults). The garden was begun in 1927 by Elizabeth and Edwin Clarkson around their house. In 1970 they donated it to the Wing Haven Foundation. The Clarksons remained in the home until 1988.

Although this is named the Scaleybark station, it is actually located opposite Scaleybark Road across South Boulevard at its intersection with Old Pineville Road in a 70 feet wide median.

Sedgefield (Charlotte neighborhood)
Sedgefield is a neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, just south of Dilworth. Many of the homes there have been renovated, and it is a popular area for young professionals. It is located between Park Rd and South Blvd. Property values have been increasing faster than average due to the development along South Blvd. There are many condo projects underway along its west side, spurred by the completion of the LYNX blue line of the Charlotte Light Rail.
Calvin Griffith Park
Clark Griffith Park was a stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, located at 400 Magnolia Avenue in the Dilworth section of town. The park opened in 1940 and held as many as 5,000 people in a covered grandstand which extended from first base to third base. It was primarily used for baseball, and served as the home field for the Charlotte Hornets, the farm team for the Washington Senators and Minnesota Twins from the 1940s to 1971, and the Charlotte Orioles from 1976 to 1985.
Freedom Park (Charlotte, North Carolina)
Freedom Park is the 98-acre "Central Park" of Charlotte, North Carolina. Located at 1900 East Boulevard, between Charlotte's historic Dilworth and Myers Park neighborhoods, the park is centered on a 7-acre lake, and is about 3 miles from the heart of Charlotte's downtown area. Latta Park (Charlotte, North Carolina)
Latta Park is a 31 acre urban park at 601 East Park Avenue in the Dilworth neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina. It features courts for tennis, volleyball, and basketball, as well as lots of benches and picnic facilities, playgrounds, walking trails, fitness trails, and soccer fields. Latta Park was designed to be kid-friendly and is one of the five Charlotte parks that feature a "sprayground", a water themed playground where children can splash and jump.
Little Sugar Creek Greenway
Little Sugar Creek Greenway is a linear park and stream restoration project in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. When completed it will consist of twenty miles of trails and paved walkways running from Cordelia Park just north of uptown Charlotte, then south through midtown Charlotte, and continuing all the way to the South Carolina state line.
Charlotte Nature Museum
The Charlotte Nature Museum is located at 1658 Sterling Road in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Museum features interactive nature exhibits and live animal displays, including a butterfly pavilion, live species, insects, and a variety of native North Carolinia animals. The Museum offers many education programs for schools, parents and the public, and features a summer camp program. The museum is located adjacent to the 98-acre Freedom Park.
