The Grasse River or Grass River (per 1905 decision of the U.S. Board on Geographic Names) is a 73-mile-long river in northern New York, in the United States. The river was named after François Joseph Paul de Grasse, comte de Grasse (1722–1788), a French admiral who assisted American forces during the Battle of Yorktown in the Revolutionary War. The river mainly flows northeast from the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains into the St. Lawrence Valley, making up what is known as the greater St.

The 1944 Cornwall-Massena earthquake occurred on Tuesday, September 5, 1944, at 12:38:45 am EST in Massena, New York. It was registered as a magnitude 5.8 on the Richter scale and was felt for a great distance. This area is part of the Saint Lawrence River Valley and the seismically active zone known as the Saint Lawrence rift system. The earthquake is the largest known in New York's recorded history.
