Astoria – Ditmars Boulevard (BMT Astoria Line)
Astoria – Ditmars Boulevard is the northern terminal station on the BMT Astoria Line of the New York City Subway. Located between 23rd Avenue and Ditmars Boulevard and 31st Street in the Queens neighborhood of Astoria, it is served by the N train at all times, and by additional Q train on weekdays. This station has two tracks and an island platform, partially located under the New York Connecting Railroad (NYCR). The tracks end at bumper blocks at the north end of the platform.
2006 Queens blackout
The 2006 Queens blackout was an unresolved series of power outages that affected the northwest section of the New York City borough Queens in July 2006. The blackout primarily affected the neighborhoods of Astoria, Long Island City, Sunnyside, and Woodside. The outages affected 174,000 people, caused business losses of tens of millions of dollars, caused airport and transit delays and cancellations, and caused unsavory living conditions due to a concurrent heat wave.

Astoria Heights more commonly referred to as "Upper Ditmars" is a district in New York City borough of Queens. It is bounded by Hazen Street and Astoria to the West, La Guardia Airport to the East, Bowery Bay to the North, and Astoria Boulevard and the Grand Central Parkway to the South. It is mostly a quiet middle class neighborhood of 1 and 2 family private homes. The Riker-Lent Homestead is near the north end of Astoria Heights at 78-03 19th Road.

Dedicated in 1941, it is in bronze on a cast stone base. It depicts Christopher Columbus as a young, energetic explorer at the helm. The base the statue sits on suggests the prow of a ship.
