Throggs Neck
Throggs Neck (also known as Throgs Neck) is a narrow spit of land in the southeastern portion of the borough of the Bronx in New York City. It demarcates the passage between the East River, and Long Island Sound. "Throggs Neck" is also the name of the neighborhood of the peninsula, bounded on the north by East Tremont Avenue and Baisley Avenue, on the west by Westchester Creek, and on the other sides by the River and the Sound.

Sylvania Electric Products explosion
On the morning of July 2, 1956, an explosion involving scrap thorium occurred at the Sylvania Electric Products' Metallurgical Laboratory in Bayside, New York. Nine people were injured, some severely. One employee died on August 6, 1956. There were two explosions. Sylvania was experimenting with large-scale production of thorium metal from thorium dioxide.
Silver Beach, Bronx
Silver Beach is a neighborhood in the Throggs Neck section of the New York City borough of the Bronx. Silver Beach is a predominantly Irish, German, and Italian neighborhood in the southeastern Bronx, lying on a bluff on the southern shore of Throggs Neck. The land was used as a lockout during the American Revolution. A farm in the area owned by the Stephenson family was sold in 1795 to Abijah Hammond, who built a large mansion (later the offices of the Silver Beach Garden Corporation).
