The Peekskill Riots were anti-communist riots with anti-black and anti-Semitic undertones that took place at Cortlandt Manor, Westchester County, New York in 1949. The catalyst for the rioting was an announced concert by black singer Paul Robeson, who was well known for his strong pro-trade union stance, civil rights activism, communist affiliations, and anti-colonialism.

Now, most residents are year-round inhabitants. There are three private beaches on the lake: North Beach, Singers Beach and Carraras Beach.

The Cortlandt Town Center (formerly known as the Westchester Mall) is a large retail power center located in the town of Cortlandt, New York (Mohegan Lake ZIP code). The New York Times called it "the main shopping area of the town of Cortlandt Manor" in 2003. The current incarnation (and name) was founded (reopened) in 1997 from the vacant and partially demolished buildings that made up the Westchester Mall, a mostly enclosed dead mall (itself founded in 1975).
