Roosevelt Island
Roosevelt Island is a narrow island in the East River of New York City. It lies between the island of Manhattan to its west and the borough of Queens to its east. Running from Manhattan's East 46th to East 85th Streets, it is about two miles (3 km) long, with a maximum width of 800 feet, and a total area of 147 acres . The island is part of the Borough of Manhattan (New York County).

Roosevelt Island Bridge
The Roosevelt Island Bridge is a lift bridge that connects Roosevelt Island to Astoria in Queens, crossing the East Channel of the East River. It is the sole route to the island for vehicular and foot traffic. Construction of the bridge began on March 17, 1952, at a cost of $6.5 million. It opened on May 18, 1955, as the Welfare Island Bridge. The name was changed to the Roosevelt Island Bridge in 1973. When the bridge is open it provides ships with 100 feet of vertical clearance.

2006 New York City plane crash
The 2006 New York City plane crash occurred on October 11, 2006, when a Cirrus SR20 general aviation, fixed-wing, single-engine light aircraft crashed into the Belaire Apartments in New York City at about 2:42 p.m. local time. The aircraft struck the north side of building, located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, causing a fire in several apartments, which was extinguished within two hours.

The New York City steam system is a district heating system which takes steam produced by steam generating stations and carries it under the streets of Manhattan to heat, cool, or supply power to high rise buildings and businesses. Some New York businesses and facilities also use the steam for cleaning, climate control and disinfection. The New York Steam Company began providing service in lower Manhattan in 1882.

John Jay Park
John Jay Park is a 3.3-acre park in the New York City borough of Manhattan. It is located between East 76th and 78th Streets, and between Franklin D. Roosevelt East River Drive and a short street called Cherokee Place, on Manhattan's Upper East Side. The park is named for statesman and New York Governor John Jay. In 1902 the city acquired through condemnation a parcel of land at the site of the park and opened a public bath house in 1906.
Big Allis
Big Allis, formally known as Ravenswood No. 3, is a giant electric power generator originally commissioned by Consolidated Edison Company (ConEd) and built by the Allis-Chalmers Corporation in 1965. Currently owned by Transcanada Corp. , it is located on 36th Avenue and Vernon Boulevard in western Queens, New York. Its main fuel is natural gas. During 1963, Allis-Chalmers announced that ConEd had ordered the "world’s first MILLION-KILOWATT unit... big enough to serve 3,000,000 people.
