Union Grounds
Union Grounds was a baseball park located in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York. The grounds opened in 1862, its inaugural match being played on May 15. It was the first baseball park enclosed entirely by a fence, thereby allowing proprietor William Cammeyer or his tenant to charge admission. This permitted paying customers to watch the games from benches in a stand while non-paying spectators could only watch from embankments outside the grounds.
DeKalb Avenue
DeKalb Avenue is a street in the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, with the majority of its length in Brooklyn. It runs from Woodward Avenue (Linden Hill Cemetery) in Ridgewood, Queens to Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn. Between Woodward Avenue and Bushwick Avenue, DeKalb Avenue is a two-way, two-lane street; between Bushwick Avenue and Fulton Street, it is one-way westbound. This station opened on June 25, 1888 as part of a westward extension of the Broadway Elevated to Driggs Avenue with the final terminus of Broadway Ferry opening a few weeks later.
