Thousand Islands Bridge
The Thousand Islands Bridge is an international bridge system over the Saint Lawrence River connecting northern New York in the United States with southeastern Ontario in Canada. Constructed in 1937, with additions in 1959, the bridges span the United States-Canada border in the middle of the Thousand Islands region, from which it derives its name.
Wellesley Island State Park
Wellesley Island State Park is located on Wellesley Island in the St. Lawrence River in the Town of Orleans in Jefferson County, New York at 44° 19'North, 76° 00' West. The park is divided into sections that are on different parts of the island. Battle of the Thousand Islands
The Battle of the Thousand Islands during the French and Indian war (also known as the Siege of Montreal) was fought 16–24 August 1760, in the upper St. Lawrence River, amongst the Thousand Islands, along the present day Canada–United States border, by British and French forces during the closing phases of the Seven Years' War, as it is called in Canada and Europe, or the French and Indian War as it is referred to in the United States.
Castle Rest
"Castle Rest, the first of several "castles" of the Thousand Islands, was a distinctive architectural work of architect Solon Spencer Beman. Designed for George M. Pullman the structure became a landmark feature of tourist steamboat excusions when constructed in 1888. "Castle Rest" on Pullman Island remained in the Pullman-Lowden family until the mid-twentieth century when the main structure was demolished. Ancillary buildings designed by Beman remain on the island.
