South Bronx
The South Bronx is an area of the New York City borough of The Bronx, in the U.S. state of New York. The geographic definitions of the South Bronx have evolved and are disputed but certainly include the neighborhoods of Mott Haven and Melrose. The neighborhoods of Tremont, University Heights, Highbridge, Morrisania, Soundview, Hunts Point, Longwood and Castle Hill are sometimes considered part of the South Bronx.

Third Avenue – 149th Street (IRT White Plains Road Line)
Third Avenue – 149th Street is a station on the IRT White Plains Road Line of the New York City Subway. It is located at Third Avenue and East 149th Street (also known as Eugenio Maria de Hostos Boulevard) in Mott Haven, Bronx and is served by the 2 and 5 trains, the latter of which does not stop here during late night hours. It is the second busiest station in the Bronx (161st Street – Yankee Stadium has more riders), 48th overall, with 7,525,094 passengers as of 2012.
Jonas Bronck
Jonas Bronck (died 1643) was an immigrant to the Dutch colony of New Netherland after whom the Bronx River, and by extension, the county and New York City borough of The Bronx are named. A mural at the Bronx County Courthouse depicting Bronck's arrival was created in the early 1930s by James Monroe Hewlett.

Mott Haven is a primarily residential neighborhood in the Southwestern section of The Bronx in New York City. Zip codes include 10451, 10454, and 10455. The neighborhood is part of Bronx Community Board 1. Its boundaries, starting from the north and moving clockwise are: East 149th Street to the north, the Bruckner Expressway to the east, the Bronx Kill waterway to the south, and the Harlem River to the west. East 138th Street is the primary east-west thoroughfare through Mott Haven.

Third Avenue – 138th Street is an express station on the IRT Pelham Line of the New York City Subway, located at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and East 138th Street in the Bronx. It is served by the 6 train at all times; and the <6> train during weekdays in the peak direction. A paid transfer was available to the IRT Third Avenue Line at the 138th Street station. This is the southernmost station in the Bronx on the IRT Pelham Line.

The Hub, Bronx
The Hub is at the retail, theater, and restaurant heart of the South Bronx, New York. It is located where four roads converge: East 149th Street, Willis, Melrose and Third Avenue. It is primarily located inside the neighborhood of Melrose but also lines the northern border of Mott Haven. The Hub has been called "the Broadway of the Bronx". It is the site of both maximum traffic and architectural density.

143rd Street (IRT Third Avenue Line)
143rd Street was a station on the demolished IRT Third Avenue Line. This station was also served by trains of the IRT Second Avenue Line until June 11, 1940. The station was originally opened on May 23, 1886. It had two tracks and one island platform. The next stop to the north was either 149th Street or Jackson Avenue. The next stop to the south was 138th Street for all trains. This station closed on May 12, 1955.
133rd Street (IRT Third Avenue Line)
133rd Street was a station on the IRT Third Avenue Line. It originally opened on May 17, 1886 and was the first stop in the Bronx after crossing the Harlem River. It had two tracks and one island platform. It was served by trains of both the Third Avenue Line and IRT Second Avenue Line until June 11, 1940. The next stop to the north was 138th Street. The next stop to the south was 129th Street. It closed on May 12, 1955.
149th Street (IRT Third Avenue Line)
149th Street was an express station on the demolished IRT Third Avenue Line, at "The Hub". The station was originally opened on June 16, 1887. It was built three tracks and two island platforms. The next stop to the north was 156th Street. The next stop to the south was 143rd Street. When the line south of here was closed on May 12, 1955, 149th Street station became the southern terminus of the Third Avenue Line.
138th Street (IRT Third Avenue Line)
138th Street was a station on the demolished IRT Third Avenue Line. It originally opened on January 1, 1887 and had two tracks and one island platform. It was also served by trains of the IRT Second Avenue Line until June 11, 1940. A paid transfer was available to IRT Pelham Line trains at the underground Third Avenue – 138th Street station. The next stop to the north was 143rd Street. The next stop to the south was 133rd Street. It closed on May 12, 1955.
Teatro Puerto Rico
The Teatro Puerto Rico was to the Latino community in the South Bronx what the Apollo Theater was to the African American community in the Harlem section of Manhattan. During its 1940s to 1950s "golden era," it was the hub of la farándula, a vaudeville-style package of Spanish-language events, and attracted entertainers from all over Latin America.

Harlem River Intermodal Yard
The Bronx Intermodal Freight Yard is railroad freight facility in the New York City borough of The Bronx. It is operated by Harlem River Yard Ventures, part of the Galesi Group. under a 99 year lease with the State of New York signed in 1991. It is primarily used to transfer solid waste to rail for shipment to disposal sites in the south east.
Bronx Opera House
The Bronx Opera House is a theatre built in 1913 at 436 East 149th street in Bronx, New York. It was one of several theaters to come into the area that became known as the Hub. It seated 1,900 on three levels and in box seats. Performers included Will Rogers in 1914, the Marx Brothers, George Burns, Gracie Allen, Julia Marlowe, Ethel Barrymore and Lionel Barrymore, David Warfield. Other performers at the theatre included George M. Cohan, Eddie Cantor, John Bunny, Harry Houdini, and Peggy Wood.
Metropolis Theatre (Bronx, New York)
Metropolis Theatre opened as a legitimate theater venue with 1,600 seats in 1893. It was converted to show motion pictures by 1914 as competition from the Bronx Opera House (1913) took hold. It was in the southwest of the area known as the Hub.
Haffen Building
Haffen Building is a historic landmark constructed in 1901-1902 in the South Bronx, New York City. Built for Matthias Haffen's family, founder of the brewery that grew into Haffen Brewing Company, it is located at 138th Street between Third Avenue and Willis Avenue. The building was designed by architect Michael J. Garvin, a friend of Louis Haffen, and the designer of the Bronx Borough Courthouse.
Willis Avenue (IRT elevated station)
Willis Avenue was an elevated rapid transit station of the Willis Avenue Spur that branched off of the IRT Third Avenue Line. It opened in 1886 and closed in 1924. The next and only stop to the south was 129th Street station in Manhattan.
