Port Morris is a neighborhood in the southwest Bronx, New York City. It is a heavily industrial neighborhood. Its boundaries are the Major Deegan Expressway and Bruckner Expressway to the north, East 149th Street to the east, the East River to the southeast, the Bronx Kill south, and the Harlem River to the west. 143rd Street was a station on the demolished IRT Third Avenue Line. This station was also served by trains of the IRT Second Avenue Line until June 11, 1940. The station was originally opened on May 23, 1886. It had two tracks and one island platform. The next stop to the north was either 149th Street or Jackson Avenue. The next stop to the south was 138th Street for all trains. This station closed on May 12, 1955.

When the line south of here was closed on May 12, 1955, 149th Street station became the southern terminus of the Third Avenue Line.

Bronx Opera House

The Bronx Opera House is a theatre built in 1913 at 436 East 149th street in Bronx, New York. It was one of several theaters to come into the area that became known as the Hub. It seated 1,900 on three levels and in box seats. Performers included Will Rogers in 1914, the Marx Brothers, George Burns, Gracie Allen, Julia Marlowe, Ethel Barrymore and Lionel Barrymore, David Warfield. Other performers at the theatre included George M. Cohan, Eddie Cantor, John Bunny, Harry Houdini, and Peggy Wood.

Haffen Building

Haffen Building is a historic landmark constructed in 1901-1902 in the South Bronx, New York City. Built for Matthias Haffen's family, founder of the brewery that grew into Haffen Brewing Company, it is located at 138th Street between Third Avenue and Willis Avenue.
