The Battle of Springfield was fought during the American Revolutionary War on June 23, 1780. The district consists of portions of Essex, Hudson, and Union counties, and includes the cities of Newark and Orange. The district's seat is currently represented by Donald M. Payne, Jr.. It was represented by Democrat Donald M. Payne from 1989 to 2012, and became vacant as a result of Payne's death on March 6, 2012 until November 15, 2012 when Donald M. Congregation B'nai Israel (Millburn, New Jersey)
B'nai Israel is an architecturally notable Conservative synagogue in Millburn, New Jersey. It was founded in 1924, and hired Max Gruenewald as rabbi in 1946. He had been the rabbi of the Haupt Synagogue in Mannheim, Germany when it was destroyed during the Kristallnacht pogrom of 1938. In 1950, two stones from the Haupt Synagogue were retrieved and placed in the walls of the sanctuary.
