North Platte, Nebraska

North Platte is a city in and the county seat of Lincoln County, Nebraska, United States. It is located in the southwestern part of the state, along Interstate 80, at the confluence of the North and South Platte Rivers forming the Platte River. The population was 24,733 at the 2010 census. North Platte is a railroad town; Union Pacific Railroad's large Bailey Yard is located within the city.

Union Pacific 3977

Union Pacific 3977 or UP 3977 is a 4-6-6-4 steam locomotive originally owned by Union Pacific Railroad. Its counterpart, Union Pacific 3985, is the largest operating steam locomotive in the world. 3977 was donated to the City of North Platte, Nebraska for display on October 19, 1968. North Platte High School is a public secondary school in North Platte, Nebraska. In 2001, the football team went to the 2001 Nebraska State Championship, but lost 28-14. North Platte competes in Class A, the highest classification of the Nebraska School Activities Association.
