Malmstrom Air Force Base
Malmstrom Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base and census-designated place (CDP) in Cascade County, Montana, United States. It was named in honor of World War II POW Colonel Einar Axel Malmstrom. It is the home of the 341st Missile Wing (341 MW) of the Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC). As a census-designated place, it had a population of 3,472 at the 2010 census.
Roe River
The Roe River runs between Giant Springs and the Missouri River in Great Falls, Montana, United States. The Roe River is only 201 feet (61 m) at its longest constant point. Towards its end, the Roe becomes surprisingly deep, at least 6-8 feet. 341st Missile Wing
The United States Air Force's 341st Missile Wing (341 MW) is an intercontinental ballistic missile unit headquartered at Malmstrom AFB, Montana. Until 1 July 2008, it was designated as the 341st Space Wing. Established as a World War II Tenth Air Force B-25 Mitchell bomb group in India, the unit served as part of Strategic Air Command during the early part of the Cold War as a B-47 Stratojet wing, before becoming an Intercontinental ballistic missile unit in 1962.
Giant Springs
Giant Springs is a large first magnitude spring located near Great Falls, Montana. Its water has a temperature of 54 °F and originates from snowmelt in the Little Belt Mountains, 60 miles away. According to radiometric dating, the water takes almost 2,900 years to travel underground before returning to the surface at the springs. Giant Springs is formed by an opening in a part of the Madison aquifer, a vast aquifer underlying 5 U.S. States and 3 Canadian Provinces.
Colter Falls
Colter Falls, also Coulter Falls, (4.3m) waterfall, nearly 0.5 miles in width, part of the Great Falls of the Missouri, on the Missouri River in north-central Montana. Downstream of Colter Falls lies Rainbow Falls, and upstream is Black Eagle Falls. The Lewis and Clark Expedition was known to discover Westslope cutthroat trout at the base of the falls. The falls is now flooded in the impoundment behind Rainbow Dam.
Rainbow Dam
Rainbow Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Missouri River, 29 feet high and 1,055 feet long, located six miles northeast of Great Falls in the U.S. state of Montana. The dam is named for the downstream Rainbow Falls, a 45 ft waterfall that is the third of the five Great Falls of the Missouri. Built in 1910, the dam furnishes water to an eight-unit hydroelectric plant with a capacity of 36 megawatts.
Rainbow Falls (Missouri River)
Rainbow Falls (originally "Handsome Falls") is a waterfall on the Missouri River in Great Falls, Montana, just upstream from Crooked Falls and downstream from Colter Falls and Rainbow Dam. It is 47 feet (14m) high and 1,320 feet (402.3m) wide. The waterfall is part of the five Great Falls of the Missouri. The river spills over a sheer ledge of sandstone in the Kootenai Formation, forming the falls. The falls used to flow with a great deal of force year-round.
