Independence is the fourth-largest city in the U.S. state of Missouri. Most of Independence lies within Jackson County, of which it is the county seat, although a small portion of the city lies in Clay County. Independence is a satellite city of Kansas City, Missouri, and is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum

The Harry S Truman Library and Museum is dedicated to preserving papers, books, and other historical materials relating to the 33rd U.S. President, Harry S Truman. It is located on a small hill facing U.S. Highway 24 in Independence, Missouri, Truman's hometown. It was the first presidential library to be created under the provisions of the 1955 Presidential Libraries Act, and is one of thirteen presidential libraries administered by the National Archives and Records Administration.

Independence Temple

The Temple in Independence, Missouri, is a house of worship and education "dedicated to the pursuit of peace". It dominates the skyline of Independence, Missouri, USA, and has become the focal point of the headquarters of the Community of Christ (formerly the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). The temple was built by the Community of Christ in response to a revelation presented to their 1984 World Conference by then church prophet-president Wallace B. Smith.

First Battle of Independence

The First Battle of Independence was a minor engagement of the American Civil War, occurring on August 11, 1862, in the city of Independence, located in Jackson County, Missouri. Its result was a Confederate victory, continuing the Southern domination of the Jackson County area during the early years of that conflict. This battle should not be confused with the Second Battle of Independence, which was fought in 1864. That battle also resulted in a Confederate victory.

St. Mary's Bundschu Memorial High School is a private, Roman Catholic high school in Independence, Missouri. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-Saint Joseph. Due to declining enrollment, the diocese has announced the school will be closing at the end of the 2012–13 school year. Stone Church (Independence, Missouri)

The Community of Christ Stone Church (known from 1888-2000 as the RLDS Stone Church) is a church building in Independence, Missouri at 1012 W. Lexington, north across the street from the Church of Christ (Temple Lot) headquarters building and diagonally opposite the Community of Christ Temple. The Church began construction on the site in 1884, and the completed building was dedicated on April 6, 1888. For years, the Stone Church was the headquarters building of the RLDS church.

Independence (Amtrak station)

The Independence Amtrak station, also known as Missouri Pacific Depot, is a train station in Independence, Missouri, United States served by Amtrak, the national railroad passenger system. The station was originally built in 1913 by the Missouri Pacific Railroad, and is also known as the "Truman Depot," because it was the final stop in Harry S. Truman's 1948 Whistlestop Campaign where 8,500 admirers welcomed Truman in January 1953 when he returned home after leaving office.
