Byram is a city in Hinds County, Mississippi. The population was 7,386 at the 2000 census, at which time it was a census-designated place (CDP). It is part of the Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was incorporated for a second time in its history on June 16, 2009.

Jackson State University
Jackson State University (Jackson State, or JSU) is a historically black university in Jackson, Mississippi, United States. Founded in 1877 in Natchez, Mississippi by the American Baptist Home Mission Society of New York, the Society moved the school to Jackson in 1882, renaming it Jackson College, and developed its present campus in 1902. It became a state-supported public institution in 1940.
Trustmark Park
Trustmark Park is the home of the Mississippi Braves, Class AA affiliate of the Atlanta Braves and is located in Pearl, Mississippi, USA. The ballpark, which opened April 18, 2005, has capacity for nearly 7,500 fans. There are 5,500 chair-back seats in the reserved seating areas. The grass berm beyond the outfield walls has room for an additional 2,000 general admission customers. On August 13, 2006 a record crowd of 7,652 saw the M-Braves defeat the Huntsville Stars 4-2.
Mississippi Coliseum
The Mississippi Coliseum is a 6,500-seat multi-purpose arena in Jackson, Mississippi, built in 1962 and located on the Mississippi State Fairgrounds complex. The arena has 6,812 seats available for basketball, and can be expanded to 10,000 for concerts. It sits 2900 feet (884 meters) atop the extinct Jackson Volcano. In addition to the Coliseum, the Mississippi State Fairgrounds includes: The Mississippi Trade Mart, the A & I agricultural complex and the Kirk Fordice Equine Center.

Pearl High School shooting
The Pearl High School shooting was a school shooting that took place on October 1, 1997 at Pearl High School in Pearl, Mississippi. The gunman, 16-year-old Luke Woodham (born February 5, 1981), killed two students and injured seven others at his high school. Before the shooting at Pearl High School began, Woodham stabbed and bludgeoned his mother to death in his home.

1979 Easter flood
The 1979 Easter flood was among the most costly and devastating ever to occur in Mississippi, with $500 million in damages. This is equivalent to $ billion in present day terms. It was the result of the Pearl River being overwhelmed by severe rain upstream. Floodwaters sent the Pearl 15 feet above flood stage. More than 17,000 people in the cities of Jackson, Flowood, Pearl, Richland and other communities were forced from their homes.
Central Mississippi Correctional Facility
The Central Mississippi Correctional Facility (CMCF) is a Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) prison for men and women located in unincorporated Rankin County, Mississippi, near Pearl. The 171-acre prison is the only state prison to hold female prisoners in Mississippi, in addition to minimum and medium security male offenders. As such, it operates as the female death row of the state. The prison is in proximity to the cities of Brandon and Jackson.
Jackson Square (Jackson, Mississippi)
Jackson Square is a regional shopping center located on the southeastern end of Jackson, Mississippi. The center opened in 1969 with more than 330,000 square feet of retail space on the rapidly developing U.S. Highway 51, today known as Terry Road, and frontage road of Interstate 55. Its mission is to document, exhibit the history of, and educate the public about the American Civil Rights Movement in the U.S. state of Mississippi between 1945 and 1970. The museum secured $20 million in funding from the Mississippi Legislature in April 2011 after Governor Haley Barbour testified in favor of its funding.
Braddy Field
Robert "Bob" Braddy Field is a baseball venue in Jackson, Mississippi, United States. It is home to the Jackson State Tigers baseball team of the NCAA Division I Southwestern Athletic Conference. Originally known as Jackson State University Baseball Complex, it was renamed prior to the 2010 season for Jackson State athletic director Robert Braddy. Opened in 2006, the facility has a capacity of 800 spectators.
