Wingfield High School
Wingfield High School is a high school in Jackson, Mississippi. It is part of the Jackson Public School District. Almost 900 children from southern Jackson attend Wingfield High School in grades 9-12, as well as over 70 administration and staff. The principal of Wingfield High School is Ms. Nadine Gilbert. The mascot of Wingfield is the falcon.
Hillcrest Christian School
Hillcrest Christian School is a private school founded in 1971, and stands on South Siwell Road, Jackson, Mississippi, USA. Initially, the current campus was known as Council McCluer which was a separate school opened the same year as Hillcrest. For much of its early life, the school was located at Sykes Road and Wheatley Drive in south Jackson, and operated as a K-9 school.
1979 Easter flood
The 1979 Easter flood was among the most costly and devastating ever to occur in Mississippi, with $500 million in damages. This is equivalent to $ billion in present day terms. It was the result of the Pearl River being overwhelmed by severe rain upstream. Floodwaters sent the Pearl 15 feet above flood stage. More than 17,000 people in the cities of Jackson, Flowood, Pearl, Richland and other communities were forced from their homes.

Jackson Square is a regional shopping center located on the southeastern end of Jackson, Mississippi. The center opened in 1969 with more than 330,000 square feet of retail space on the rapidly developing U.S. Highway 51, today known as Terry Road, and frontage road of Interstate 55. The anchor tenants at the opening were Zayre, Giant Foods of America as well as junior anchors Eckerd, TG&Y, Shainberg's Dept Store and a cinema.
