Forrest County, Mississippi
Forrest County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. It is part of the Hattiesburg, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of 2010, the population was 74,934. Forrest County was carved out of the western portion of Perry County in 1908. It is named in honor of Nathan B. Forrest, a Confederate general in the American Civil War and the first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. Its county seat and largest city is Hattiesburg.

Petal is a city in Forrest County, Mississippi, along the Leaf River. It is part of the Hattiesburg, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population is approximately 10,454 per the US Census estimates performed in April, 2010. The International Checker Hall of Fame was located in Petal until September 29, 2007 when 20,000 sq. ft. of the 35,000 sq. ft. building caught fire. On June 23, 2004, Sports Illustrated entitled Petal as "Sports Illustrated Sportstown for Mississippi".

Hattiesburg is a city in Mississippi, bisected by the county line between Forrest County and Lamar County. The population was 45,989 in the 2010 census. It is the principal city of the Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Metropolitan Statistical Area which encompasses Forrest, Lamar and Perry counties. Founded in 1882 by pioneer lumberman and civil engineer William H. Hardy, Hattiesburg was named in honor of Hardy's wife Hattie. The town was incorporated two years later with a population of 400.

Pete Taylor Park
