St. Cloud State University is a four-year public university founded in 1869 on the banks of the Mississippi River in St. Cloud, Minnesota, United States. The university is the largest school in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) system, which is the largest single provider of higher education in Minnesota. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Saint Cloud (Latin: Dioecesis Sancti Clodoaldi) is a Roman Catholic diocese in Minnesota. It was founded on September 22, 1889, out of territory that had been evangelized by the missionary priest Father Francis Xavier Pierz. This diocese covers Benton, Douglas, Grant, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Otter Tail, Pope, Sherburne, Stearns, Stevens, Todd, Traverse, Wadena, and Wilkin Counties.
DeSoto Bridge
DeSoto Bridge was a trussed deck-arch bridge that spanned the Mississippi River in St. Cloud, Minnesota. It was built in 1958 by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The bridge was painted black, which is typical for railroad bridges but unusual for a highway bridge. The river banks on either side are relatively high, so the bridge required deep trusses which arched over the river.
Veterans Bridge (St. Cloud, Minnesota)
Veterans Bridge is a steel girder bridge that spans the Mississippi River in St. Cloud, Minnesota. It was built in 1971 and was designed by Howard, Needles, Tammen & Bergendoff. There have been three previous bridges at this location. The first was built in 1867 by the St. Cloud Bridge Company and was a wooden toll bridge. The city bought the bridge in 1887 and rebuilt it with iron and wood.
St. Cloud Rail Bridge
The St. Cloud Rail Bridge is a pin-connected truss bridge that spans the Mississippi River in St. Cloud, Minnesota. It was built in 1892 by Great Northern Railway and was probably designed by the railroad. Two of the piers are stone, while a third pier is newer and made of concrete. The bridge has an extra set of bracing that hangs about ten feet below the bottom trusses, appearing to hang like a hammock. This was added to increase the capacity of the bridge.

St. Cloud is a train station in St. Cloud, Minnesota served by Amtrak, the national railroad passenger system. It was built in 1898 by the Northern Pacific Railway. It is situated on the east side of the Mississippi River in the middle of a wye that links to the St. Cloud Rail Bridge. St. Cloud is served by Amtrak's daily Empire Builder. Of the six Minnesota stations served by Amtrak, St. Cloud was the third busiest in FY10, boarding or detraining an average of 34 passengers daily.
1998 St. Cloud explosion
The 1998 St. Cloud explosion was a gas explosion that occurred in St. Cloud, Minnesota on December 11, 1998. A work crew installing a utility pole support anchor punctured an underground natural gas pipeline, causing the explosion. The blast killed four people, injured eleven, destroyed six buildings, and caused an estimated $399,000 USD in damages. An NTSB report on the incident faulted the safety and emergency practices of Cable Constructors, Inc.

Great River Regional Library is a library system serving Benton, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd and Wright Counties in central Minnesota. It is a consolidated library system made of 32 branch libraries, with a headquarters at the St. Cloud Public Library. The St. Cloud Public Library now occupies a new building, which replaced a smaller one.
National Hockey and Event Center
The National Hockey and Event Center (NHEC) is a 5,763-seat hockey arena in St. Cloud, Minnesota. It is home to the St. Cloud State University Huskies men's & women's ice hockey teams, and the Saint John's University Johnnies ice hockey team. The main rink is now named for former SCSU President Brendan J. McDonald, who advocated the team's move to Division I hockey. The arena consists of a lower and upper deck on the sides the ice.
