Lake Calhoun
Lake Calhoun is the largest lake in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and part of the city's Chain of Lakes. Surrounded by city park land and circled by bike and walking trails, it is popular for many outdoor activities. The lake has an area of 401 acres and a maximum depth of 87 feet . The lake is part of the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway, connecting with Lake of the Isles on the northeast, Cedar Lake on the northwest, and Lake Harriet on the south.

Lake of the Isles is a lake in Minneapolis, Minnesota connected to Cedar Lake and Lake Calhoun. It is home to winter ice skating and hockey, as well as a New Year's Eve celebration featuring roasted marshmallows and hot chocolate. The lake has an area of 109 acres, 2.86 miles of shoreline, and a maximum depth of 31 feet . Lake of the Isles is known for its two wooded islands, its long north arm, and the stately houses of the Kenwood, Lowry Hill and East Isles neighborhoods which surround it.

Minnesota Zen Meditation Center was formed when the founding head teacher, Dainin Katagiri, (1928-1990) was invited to come from California in 1972 to teach a small but growing group of Minneapolis students interested in the dharma. After his death, Shohaku Okumura served as interim head teacher until the installation of Karen Sunna, who had studied with Katagiri Roshi until his death. Succeeding Karen as head priest is Tim Burkett, a long time student of both Katagiri and Suzuki Roshi.
