Cranbrook Schools is a private, PK–12 preparatory school located on a 319-acre campus in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The schools comprise a co-educational elementary school, a middle school with separate schools for boys and girls, and a co-educational high school with boarding facilities. Cranbrook Schools is part of the Cranbrook Educational Community (CEC), which includes the Cranbrook Institute of Science, the Cranbrook Academy of Art, and Cranbrook House and Gardens.
Oakland Hills Country Club
Oakland Hills Country Club is a private golf club in Bloomfield Township, Michigan, a suburb northwest of Detroit. It consists of two 18-hole courses designed by Donald Ross: the South Course (1918) and the North Course (1923). Oakland Hills has hosted many prestigious professional golf tournaments throughout its history, including six U.S. Opens and three PGA Championships, all but a single round of the 2002 U.S. Amateur on its South Course.
Lahser High School
Lahser High School is a high school in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Opened in 1967 with 200 students, it now has almost 900 students. Now the school is receiving the International Baccalaureate program for the class of 2013 and beyond. The teachers at Lahser have been preparing for this for 3 years. The football program has had five consecutive playoff-eligible seasons, 2002–2006, in both class 3 and class 2 MHSAA competition.
Kirk in the Hills
Not to be confused with Kirk of the Hills. Kirk in the Hills Presbyterian (1958) is a Cathedral styled Church located in Bloomfield Township, Michigan. Architect George D. Mason designed the present church. Wirt Rowland had made preliminary designs for the church before World War II, but Rowland died in 1946 and the Mason design was not based on the Rowland sketches.
WBFH
WBFH, also known as The Biff, is a community radio station that has operated out of Bloomfield Hills Andover High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan since October 1, 1976. The school district is merging the two high schools into one and will be tearing down most of Andover to build new facilities on the same site. WBFH studios will be moved to Lahser High School in the summer of 2013 for the two years of construction on the Andover site.
1996 U.S. Open (golf)
The 1996 U.S. Open was the 96th U.S. Open. The golf tournament was held June 13–16, 1996, at Oakland Hills Country Club in Birmingham, Michigan. Steve Jones capped off a comeback from a career-threatening injury with an one-stroke victory over Tom Lehman and Davis Love III. Lehman, the leader after 54 holes, led Jones by three going to the back-nine in the final round. He relinquished the lead, however, with bogeys at 10 and 12. At the 18th he drove into a bunker and missed a 15-footer for par.
1985 U.S. Open (golf)
The 1985 U.S. Open was the 85th U.S. Open. The golf tournament was held June 13–16, 1985, at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Andy North won his second U.S. Open title by a stroke over runners-up Dave Barr, Tze-Chung Chen, and Denis Watson. Tze-Chung "T.C. " Chen had a historic beginning to the U.S. Open. In his first three rounds, he established a new course record at Oakland Hills with a 65, made the first double-eagle in U.S.
1961 U.S. Open (golf)
The 1961 U.S. Open was the 61st U.S. Open. The golf tournament was held June 15–17, 1961, at Oakland Hills Country Club in Birmingham, Michigan, a suburb north of Detroit. Gene Littler won his sole major title by one stroke over runners-up Bob Goalby and Doug Sanders.
