Michigan Technological University
Michigan Technological University (commonly referred to as Michigan Tech, MTU, or simply Tech) is a public research university located in Houghton, Michigan, United States. Its main campus sits on 925 acres on a bluff overlooking Portage Lake. Michigan Tech was founded in 1885 as the first post-secondary institution in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and was created to train mining engineers to operate the local copper mines.

Houghton is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan's Upper Peninsula and largest city in the Copper Country on the Keweenaw Peninsula. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 7,708. It is the county seat of Houghton County. It has been listed as one of the "100 Best Small Towns in America. " Houghton is sometimes confused with, or thought to be close to, Houghton Lake; the latter is actually located in the state's Lower Peninsula.
Portage Lake District Library
Portage Lake District Library is a public library located in Houghton, Michigan, which serves the city of Houghton and Chassell and Portage Townships. The Portage Lake District Library participates in the Michigan eLibrary (MeL) and is a member of the Superiorland Library Cooperative. Patrons can check out books on a wide variety of subjects from Easy Reading to Adult Nonfiction. The Portage Lake District also includes a room dedicated to Michigan History and Genealogy.
Ripley, Michigan
Ripley is a small, unincorporated community in Franklin Township situated upon a slope, just east of Hancock on M-26 and across the Portage Lake Canal from Houghton. A ski resort called Mont Ripley is located in Ripley. The now-closed Quincy Smelting Works, formerly operated by the Quincy Mine, is also located in Ripley.
Dee Stadium
Dee Stadium, also called The Dee, is an ice hockey arena in Houghton, Michigan, that replaces, and is located on the same site as, the Amphidrome. It is regarded as the birthplace of professional hockey, and is the seventh oldest indoor ice rink in the world.
Mont Ripley
Mont Ripley is a ski hill located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It is owned by Michigan Technological University. It was founded in the early 1900s (by Fred Lonsdorf) and has since grown to one of the premier ski hills in the American Midwest. With the addition of snow making in 2000, the season has been extended from late November to late March or early April. Mont Ripley is known for its challenging terrain and spectacular views of Houghton, Portage Lake and the Huron Mountains.
A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum
The A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum, currently located on the campus of Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan, is the official mineral museum of the state of Michigan and is a heritage site of the Keweenaw National Historical Park. The museum is named for professor Arthur Edmund Seaman, who worked at Michigan Tech in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and was the museum's curator from 1928–1937.
WOLV
WOLV (97.7 FM, "The Wolf"") is a radio station licensed to Houghton, Michigan broadcasting a classic hits format. The station first went on the air in January 1980 as WHUH-FM. In 1990, the station's call letters were changed to WOLF-FM. In 1994, the call letters were changed to WOLV-FM.
Memorial Union Building (MTU)
The Memorial Union Building (MUB) was finished on the Michigan Tech campus in 1952. Originally constructed to facilitate the needs of 1169 students, the MUB was renovated in 1987 to accommodate the large increase in enrollment. Used for many things including lounge and study purposes, cafeteria, dining rooms, food services, bookstore, conference rooms, student organization offices, and game rooms, the MUB is always a center of social activity for the Michigan Tech campus.

Quincy Smelter
The Quincy Smelter is the only remaining copper smelter in the Lake Superior region. It is located north of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge in Ripley, Michigan. It was operated by the Quincy Mine until 1972 and processed ore from 13 local mines. There is currently controversy over what should be done with the land which is currently owned by Franklin Township. The EPA and National Park Service want to turn the site into a historical self-tour or fishing and picnicking area.
