Canton Viaduct
Canton Viaduct is the oldest blind arcade cavity wall viaduct in the world and it was the longest and tallest railroad viaduct ever built when it was completed in 1835. It is the last surviving viaduct of its kind and has been in continuous service for 177 years; it now carries high-speed passenger and freight rail service. This hollow viaduct in Canton, Massachusetts (USA) was built in 1834-35 for the Boston and Providence Railroad Corporation (B&P).
Blue Hill Country Club
Blue Hill Country Club is a private country club located in Canton, Massachusetts established in 1925. It has hosted professional tournaments on both the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour, including the PGA Championship, a major championship on the PGA Tour. It includes two courses: the 18-hole Championship Course, designed in 1925 by Eugene "Skip" Wogan and the 9-hole Challenger Course, designed in 1961 by Wogan's son Phil.
Canton Junction (MBTA station)
Canton Junction is a railway station on the MBTA Commuter Rail's Providence/Stoughton line, located a few hundred yards north of the Canton Viaduct. At Canton Junction the two branches of the Providence/Stoughton Line split, one going to Wickford Junction, Rhode Island, the other to Stoughton, Massachusetts. Canton Junction was originally built by the Old Colony Railroad in 1892 by Bradford Lee Gilbert. It became part of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad a year later in 1893.
Canton Center (MBTA station)
Canton Center is a commuter rail station on the MBTA's Providence/Stoughton Line located in Canton, Massachusetts. It has 1 side platform on the south side of the track west of Washington Street. It is served by all Stoughton Branch trains except for most late afternoon and evening inbound trains. Canton Center has seen one of the largest relative increases in ridership of any commuter rail station during the MBTA era.
1956 PGA Championship
The 1956 PGA Championship was the 38th edition of the professional golf competition, held at Blue Hill Country Club in Canton, Massachusetts, a suburb south of Boston. Jack Burke, Jr. won his second major championship of 1956, a 3&2 victory over Ted Kroll; Burke won the Masters in April. It was the penultimate PGA Championship as a match play competition; stroke play was introduced two years later in 1958.
