Rockport, Massachusetts
Rockport is a town in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 6,952 at the 2010 census. Rockport is located approximately 25 miles northeast of Boston at the tip of the Cape Ann peninsula. It is directly east of Gloucester and is surrounded on three sides by the Atlantic Ocean. Only part of the town composes the census-designated place of Rockport.
Cape Ann
Cape Ann is a rocky cape in northeastern Massachusetts on the Atlantic Ocean. The cape is located approximately 30 miles northeast of Boston and forms the northern edge of Massachusetts Bay. Cape Ann includes the city of Gloucester, and the towns of Essex, Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Rockport. It also includes the easternmost part of Beverly.

Motif Number 1, located on Bradley Wharf in the harbor town of Rockport, Massachusetts, is a fishing shack well known to students of art and art history as "the most often-painted building in America. " Built in the 1840s as Rockport became home to a colony of artists and fishermen, the shack became a favorite subject of painters due to the composition and lighting of its location as well as being a symbol of New England maritime life.
Capture of USS Chesapeake
The Capture of USS Chesapeake, or the Battle of Boston Harbor, was fought on 1 June 1813, between the frigates HMS Shannon and USS Chesapeake, as part of the War of 1812 between the United States and the United Kingdom. The Chesapeake was captured in a brief but intense action in which over 80 men were killed. This was the only frigate action of the war in which there was no preponderance of force on either side.
Rockport National Bank
Rockport National Bank first opened in Rockport, Massachusetts as a state bank in 1851, and received its national charter on March 8, 1865. Presently, Rockport National Bank serves the Cape Ann community with three full-service branches and online banking capabilities. Rockport National Bank has recently relocated both Gloucester locations (Eastern Avenue and Railroad Avenue) into its Parker Street location, which opened in June 2007.
Rockport (MBTA station)
Rockport is a passenger rail station on MBTA's Newburyport/Rockport Line. It is the terminus of the Rockport branch of the line. The station complex consists of a single side platform with one revenue track plus 4 lay up tracks for parked trains and a short stretch of auxiliary track. This is the only station on the line to have a stretch of high platform in the middle, as opposed to at the end farthest from Boston as in all of the other stations built during the same time.
Thacher Island
Thacher Island is a small island off Cape Ann on the Massachusetts coast in the United States. It is a part of the Town of Rockport. It was a place where some naval confrontations, both minor and major, took place, which helped secure victory for the colonists. The island, named after Anthony Thacher, is located in perilous waters, where there have been many shipwrecks.
