Wicomico County, Maryland

Wicomico County is a county located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Maryland. The county's name is pronounced wy-KAHM-ih-koh. It was named for the Wicomico River, which in turn derives from Algonquian language words wicko mekee, meaning "a place where houses are built," apparently referring to an Indian town on the banks. The county seat is Salisbury. As of 2010, the population was 98,733. It is included in the Salisbury, Maryland, Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The Salisbury Police Department (SPD) is a nationally accredited full-service agency servicing a population of 23,743 persons within 11.4 square miles of the municipality of Salisbury, Maryland. SPD became accredited on April 26, 1987, becoming the 45th agency accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore was established in 1984, and is located in Salisbury, Maryland.
