Montgomery Blair High School (MBHS) is a public high school located in unincorporated Silver Spring in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. The school was named after Montgomery Blair, a lawyer who represented Dred Scott in his United States Supreme Court case and who served as Postmaster General under President Abraham Lincoln. It originally opened in 1925 as Takoma Park-Silver Spring High School.

The AFI Silver is a three-screen movie theater complex in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland, just north of Washington, D.C. in the United States of America. It plays both art-house and mainstream movies. It is run by the American Film Institute. The AFI Silver is the result of a restoration project for the original Silver Theatre in Silver Spring, which was originally designed by movie palace architect John Eberson and constructed in 1938. Top of the Park is a community of historic townhouse condominiums located in Silver Spring, Maryland. It was built as an apartment complex in 1941 and converted into 2-and 3-bedroom condominiums in 1980. The 166 townhouses – all built of red brick in the Colonial Revival style – are nestled in a wooded area above Sligo Creek Park near Piney Branch Road, about a mile from downtown Silver Spring.

The Discovery Communications headquarters hostage crisis occurred on September 1, 2010 at the headquarters of Discovery Communications in Silver Spring, Maryland, United States, when 43-year-old James Lee, armed with two starter pistols and an explosive device, took three people hostage in the building's lobby. After nearly four hours, Lee was shot dead by police and all the hostages were freed. Lee's motive was believed to have been grounded in environmental activism.
