Poolesville is a town in the western portion of Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. The population was 4,883 at the 2010 census. It is surrounded by (but is technically not part of) the Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve, and is considered a distant bedroom community for commuters to Washington, D.C. The name of the town comes from the brothers John Poole, Sr. and Joseph Poole, Sr. who owned land in what is now Poolesville.

White's Ford

White's Ford was an important ford over the Potomac River during the American Civil War. It was used in many major actions, including the crossing into Maryland of the Confederate army prior to the Maryland Campaign and Confederate Major General J.E.B. Stuart's ride around Union Major General George B. McClellan on October 10, 1862, when he used the ford to cross into Loudoun County, Virginia. It is located a few miles above present-day White's Ferry. The ford was named after Captain Elijah V.

Darby Store

The Darby Store is a historic site located in Beallsville, Maryland. Originally, a store and blacksmith shop were at the location of the Darby Store, the intersection of Beallsville Road and Darnstown Road (Route 28), until in 1908 H.C. Darby bought the land. In 1910, H.C. Darby built a two-story general store. In the 19th and 20th century it was very common to have the family residence next to the family business.

Seneca Aqueduct — or Aqueduct No. 1 — carries the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal over Seneca Creek (Potomac River) in Montgomery County, Maryland. The C&O built eleven aqueducts along its 184.5 miles. Seneca Aqueduct is a unique structure, not only being the first built, but also the only red sandstone aqueduct on the C&O - and the only aqueduct that is also a lock (Lock 24, or Riley's Lock). It is located at the end of Riley's Lock Road in Seneca, Maryland.
