Howard County General Hospital
Howard County General Hospital is a 249-bed, not-for-profit health care provider located in Columbia, Maryland. The hospital was opened in 1973. It currently employs over 800 medical professionals and approximately 1,700 people total. The hospital is an acute-care medical center with women's and children's care, surgery, cardiology, oncology, orthopedics, gerontology, psychiatry, emergency services, and community health education. Since 1998, it has been a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Hickory Ridge, Columbia, Maryland
Hickory Ridge is one of the 10 villages in Columbia, Maryland, located to the west of the Town Center. It was first occupied in 1974. Neighborhoods in the village are Hawthorn, Clary's Forest, and Clemens Crossing. The name Hickory Ridge comes from the original name of the tract of land it occupies. Clary's Forest is named after the original land owner John Clary (1734). Streets in Clary's Forest are based on the work of William Carlos Williams. Hawthorn is the name of an Amy Lowell poem.
Wilde Lake High School
Wilde Lake High School is a secondary school located in Columbia, Maryland's Village of Wilde Lake, one of 12 public high schools in Howard County. Opened in 1971 as a model school for the nation, it was Columbia's first high school. It had a unique open doughnut-shaped design with "open classrooms" and was a model school for new teaching settings. In 1994, the original building was demolished and reconstructed on the same site with a more traditional style.

Harper's Choice, Columbia, Maryland
Harper's Choice is one of the ten villages that comprise Columbia, Maryland. It lies in the northwest part of Columbia and consists of the neighborhoods of Longfellow, Swansfield, and Hobbit's Glen and had a December 1998 population of 8,695. Harper's Choice is named for Harper Goodloe Carroll, whose estate was in the area. Longfellow was named for the American poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and the street names are from his works. It is home to over 40 species of mammals, and numerous amphibians, reptiles, fishes, butterflies, plants and other wildlife.
