Savage-Guilford, Maryland
Savage-Guilford was a census-designated place (CDP) in Howard County, Maryland, United States, for the 2000 U.S. Census, at which time its population was 12,918. It consisted of the unincorporated communities of Savage and Guilford. At the 2010 U.S. Census, the area was re-delineated as the Savage CDP.
Jessup, Maryland
Jessup (pronounced JESS-up) is an unincorporated town and census-designated place in Howard County, Maryland and Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The population was 7,865 at the 2000 census. The center of population of Maryland is located in Jessup. It was the location of Maryland House of Correction, which was one of the Maryland Department of Corrections prison complexes until it closed in 2007.
Guilford, Maryland
Guilford is a community located in Howard County in the state of Maryland in the United States of America. Formerly a small railroad stop, it now lies within the boundaries of Columbia. Spurrier's Tavern
Spurrier's Tavern was a tavern and horse-changing depot which stood by the main road between Baltimore and Washington, D.C. from 1771 to 1835. During the American Revolutionary War, the tavern was significant as a supply and resting point for the Continental Army; George Washington was a frequent visitor. Later renamed Waterloo by an anti-Napoleon innkeeper, the tavern served stagecoaches bound for Washington, D.C. , during the early 19th century.
Maryland House of Correction
The Maryland House of Correction, nicknamed "The Cut" or "The House", was a Maryland Department of Corrections state maximum security prison in an unincorporated area in Maryland. Most of its territory was in Anne Arundel County, while portions were in Howard County. The prison opened in 1879 and became infamous for the high levels of violence that took place inside its walls. The state, under Governor Martin O'Malley, closed the prison in March 2007.
Jessup (MARC station)
Jessup is a passenger rail station on the MARC Camden Line between Washington, DC and Baltimore's Camden Station. It was built on 8 Old Jessup Road, east of the embankment of the Jessup Road bridge over the Camden Line, a former Baltimore and Ohio Railroad line.
Patuxent Institution
The Patuxent Institution is located in Jessup, Maryland one mile east of US Route 1 on Maryland Route 175. It is a treatment-oriented maximum-security correctional facility. With a maximum static capacity of 987 beds, it offers the most diverse services to the most varied male and female offender population in the state, and possibly in the nation. Patuxent Institution is the only institution for sentenced criminals in Maryland that is not part of the Maryland Division of Correction.
Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center
Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center (CTPHC) is a 220-bed psychiatric hospital in Jessup, Maryland. The center is operated by the Maryland Mental Hygiene Administration within the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. CTPHC is a Maximum Security facility and nearly all of its patients are involved in the legal system in some manner. The facility is commonly referred to as Maryland’s maximum security forensic psychiatric hospital.
