Fort Ritchie, Maryland

Fort Ritchie is a census-designated place (CDP) in Washington County, Maryland, United States, just south of the Pennsylvania state line. The population was 276 at the 2000 census. Fort Ritchie is a former U.S. military base that closed in September 1998 pursuant to the 1995 Base Realignment and Closure Commission. Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania is immediately to the north.

Catoctin AVA

The Catoctin AVA is an American Viticultural Area located in the Frederick and Washington counties of western Maryland. The region is bordered by Catoctin Mountain to the east, the Pennsylvania border to the north, South Mountain to the west, and the Potomac River to the south. "Catoctin" is Algonquian for "speckled rock", a geological feature of the area. Two commercial wineries operate in the AVA, Frederick Cellars, and Orchid Cellars.

Fort Ritchie

Fort Ritchie at Cascade, Maryland was a military installation southwest of Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania and southeast of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania in the area of South Mountain. Following the 1995 Base Realignment and Closure Commission, it closed in 1998: "Out the Gate, by '98".

Camp Louise

Camp Louise is an all-girls, Jewish overnight summer camp in the Catoctin Mountains in Cascade, Maryland. It is the sister camp of Camp Airy for boys, which is located in Thurmont. Girls between the ages of 7 and 17 attend for one to eight weeks, depending on their age and interest. Louise is a member of the American Camp Association.
