Chalmette, Louisiana
Chalmette is a census-designated place (CDP) in and the parish seat of St. Bernard Parish, in southeast Louisiana, United States. The 2010 census reported that Chalmette had 16,751 people and is 76 percent white. The 2011 population is listed as 17,119; however, the pre-Katrina population was 32,069 at the 2000 census. The population hence declined by 46 percent between 2000 and 2010. Chalmette is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Meraux, Louisiana
Meraux is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, in the United States. The population was 10,192 at the 2000 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner Metropolitan Statistical Area. The District 103 state representative, Ray Garofalo, resides in Meraux.

Violet is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 8,555 at the 2000 census. Violet is located on the east bank of the Mississippi River, about 7.5 miles southeast of New Orleans and is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Battle of New Orleans
The Battle of New Orleans took place on January 8, 1815 and was the final major battle of the War of 1812. American forces, commanded by Major General Andrew Jackson, defeated an invading British Army intent on seizing New Orleans and the vast territory the United States had acquired with the Louisiana Purchase. The Treaty of Ghent, having been signed on December 24, 1814, was ratified by the Prince Regent on December 30, 1814 and the United States Senate on February 16, 1815.

Florida Canal
The Florida Canal or 40 Arpent Canal is a canal in the New Orleans metropolitan area and land down river. The canal was built in the 18th century colonial era of Louisiana, stretching from what is now the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood of New Orleans, roughly paralleling the Mississippi River on the East Bank down through modern Saint Bernard Parish and part of the East Bank of Plaquemines. Colonial land grants commonly stretched 40 arpents back from the Mississippi River.
Murphy Oil USA refinery spill
The Murphy Oil USA refinery spill is a spill that resulted from the failure of a storage tank at the Murphy Oil USA refinery and spoiled the flood-waters following the levee breaks of Hurricane Katrina in residential areas of Chalmette- and Meraux, Louisiana. According to US Coast Guard there were about 44 oil spills in the area affected by Hurricane Katrina. Most of these occurred in areas of Plaquemines Parish which do not have large populations. This spill is the exception.

Aurora Gardens Academy
Aurora Gardens Academy was a private school located in lower Algiers, on the Westbank of New Orleans, Louisiana at 2200 Hudson Place adjacent to the Mississippi River. The school was founded by the Scullin family in the early 1960s and closed in 1994. Part of the Aurora Gardens property was used in the Battle of New Orleans. This was the only school in the New Orleans area that used the Carden Method of phonetics.

It is a part of St. Bernard Parish Public Schools. Andrew Jackson formerly held a school of 1075 students. August 29, 2005, Andrew Jackson was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina. As of 2006, the school re-opened not as a high school, but a middle school.
